12-12
well the talks that we had in class were very interesting. it was kind of an eyeopener to hear everyones opinions on such a highley debated topic. i didnt talk much in the discussion, i know that is what you are suposed to do in a discussion, but i just didnt really know how to voice my opinion. its kind of like that for a lot of thinggs i dont know if it is for my lack of interest in school or if its something else. the point is i dont talk much when we are debating. i honestly have no motivation to talk in this class. if you say something its not like it matters. you cant change someones opinion that easily. i just do what i do. i sit in the back and listen untill its time to go.i think it makes school easier. so instead of getting yelled at by your teachers your parents and your friends you only have to deal with the teachers and your parents . i dont know why.

12th post or maybe 13th
well i had a hard time getting internet conection in my house, which is not a big suprise. i swear every time i need to do something, like a homework assignment, it choses to not work.but that is not something to be discussed on this blog. whqt should be on this blog is something about human rights. human rights are basically rights of equality among other human beings. everyone should be entitled to human rights. i think it is good that we are learning this in school. we cant grow up thinking that it is ok to deny other people human rights. for example, saying gay or retarded. it is not ok to say these things. what you are basically saying is that it is bad to be retarded or gay. yo are using words or phrases that describe people in a negative way . why is this underlined. i dont know what is going on. i dont like this. not one bit. well ok there we are i dont know why that just happened but it did. but it is a good thing that we learn now that what we say can hurt people. we need to learn it now so we dont develop bad habbits and things of that nature. it is a good life lesson that needs to be tought and what better ways than learning from mistakes that we have made in the past.

Mascot, Nightjohn, and The Great Debaters
1.
Nightjohn is a story about an African American child born into slavery. Sarne, the main character and narrator, was raised to believe that white people were better than they were. She was raised to believe that only white people could have certain privileges, like being able to read. Sarne did not understand why she could not learn how to read. The truth is, that was one of the main differences between slaves and their owners. And the owners realized that they had to enforce it. No slave was aloud to learn how to read. Nightjohn, as he was called in the story, was a big influence on slaves. He escaped his job as a slave to the north. He went back to the south, and risked his life going back into slavery to teach slaves how to read. He went there with a plan, to teach the young how to read so they could pass it on to the generations. His brave actions led him to teach a young slave how to read. he completed his goal and maybe Sarne would pass it on to another child.
2.
Mascot, the story of an African American boy growing up. Malcolm was just trying to figure out what his place in this world was. Trying to find somewhere that he fit in. when he was disowned by his community after his failed boxing debut, he turned to anger and violence for his answers. After being expelled for these actions he was sent to a reform school to set him on the right path. It was at the detention home in Mason, Michigan were he grew fond of his care takers Mr. and Mrs. Swerlin. The detention home set him in the right direction. After the detention home he got a shot at going to a normal school. Mason junior high school was the next school that Malcolm went to. He had a good life during his time at school. He was on the basketball team and even became class president of his class. He had a life much like a normal white boy would have, but that did not change the fact that he was black. One day after school he went in to talk to his English teacher Mr. Ostrowski. Mr. Ostrowski started to talk to Malcolm about his future. When he asked Malcolm what he wanted to do for a living Malcolm responded,” I want to be a lawyer". Mr. Ostrowski told him that it simply would not happen because he was black. At that time it was unheard of for a black man to even think about becoming a lawyer. Malcolm then realized the harsh reality; his future was decided by the color of his skin. life would change a lot for Malcolm after this point. He later said that it was for the best that he made the decision that he did.
3.
The stories that we read in class have many similarities and differences from The Great Debaters. All of the stories have one major thing in common; they have to deal with human rights. Race was a key factor in all of the stories that we read. People simply were not treated equally because of the color of their skin. In Nightjohn the slaves were slaves because of the color of their skin. In The Great Debaters they had to overcome obstacles because of the color of their skin. And in mascot Malcolm was treated like an animal because of the color of his skin. He could not do something that he dreamed of because of the color of his skin. Even though the morals of the stories are generally the same the stories do differ. For example in the story Mascot Malcolm was not able to do what he wanted. In The Great Debaters they did go on to complete what they wanted to do. And in Nightjohn we do not know what happened. If they completed their goal or if they even had a goal. Even though the stories were so similar in the sense that they had to deal with human the endings and the outcome of the stories were different.

10th response
just for the record i am listening to the new taylor swift album.
i know at least one person will respect that. so anyway back to what this blog is about. this blog is suposed to be about something that relates to class. so this blog is related to class. what i am saying is that i said something about taylor swift in this blog and this blog is related to this class so technicly i can write this entire blog about taylor swift because it relates to class. haha pretty clever i know. so taylor swift is one or the best country artists that has ever lived. and being that i started listening to country music two years ago that may not be true. but her songs are great.
I was riding shotgun with my hair undone
In the front seat of his car
He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
The other on my heart
I look around, turn the radio down
He says, ?Baby is something wrong??
I say, ?Nothing I was just thinking
How we don't have a song? and he says
Our song is the slamming screen door
Sneakin' out late, tapping on your window
When we're on the phone and you talk real slow
'Cause it's late and your mama don't know
Our song is the way you laugh
The first date man, I didn't kiss her and I should have
And when I got home, 'fore I said amen
Asking God if He could play it again
I was walking up the front porch steps
After everything that day
Had gone all wrong or been trampled on
And lost and thrown away
Got to the hallway, well, on my way
To my lovin' bed
I almost didn't notice all the roses
And the note that said
Our song is the slamming screen door
Sneakin' out late, tapping on your window
When we're on the phone and you talk real slow
'Cause it's late and your mama don't know
Our song is the way you laugh
The first date man, I didn't kiss her and I should have
And when I got home, 'fore I said amen
Asking God if He could play it again
I've heard every album, listened to the radio
Waited for something to come along
That was as good as our song
'Cause our song is the slamming screen door
Sneakin' out late, tapping on his window
When we're on the phone and he talks real slow
'Cause it's late and his mama don't know
Our song is the way he laughs
The first date man, I didn't kiss him and I should have
And when I got home, 'fore I said amen
Asking God if He could play it again
Play it again, oh, yeah, oh, oh, yeah
I was riding shotgun with my hair undone
In the front seat of his car
I grabbed a pen and an old napkin
And I wrote down our song
I was riding shotgun with my hair undone
In the front seat of his car
He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
The other on my heart
I look around, turn the radio down
He says, ?Baby is something wrong??

9th Post
so it is now the ninth post and i have completely run out of things to say. i just got back from hockey tryouts and i am very tired, however before i go to sleep i need to write this. because i have nothing to say i will have to improvise.
Someone told me long ago
There's a calm before the storm,
I know; It's been comin' for some time.
When it's over, so they say,
It'll rain a sunny day,
I know; Shinin' down like water.
CHORUS:
I want to know,
Have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know,
Have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?
Yesterday, and days before,
Sun is cold and rain is hard,
I know; Been that way for all my time.
'Til forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow,
I know; It can't stop, I wonder.
John Fogerty is my hero
My 20 min is up.

8th blog
ok i am on the 8th blog and for a time of about a week i thought that these blogs werent that bad but now i realize how stupid they are. but i will not complane because i have realized something great about them. if you do them , which is not hard to do. you get a free 25 points a week. i mean come on you can do these while you are watching tv. every time there is a comercial you type for a couple of minutes. 25 points is a large number of points. it could be the difference between a b and an a . so now i like the fact that mr. potter is giving us a free 25 points every week. it is a lot more than a lot of other teachers do. so because stephanie, if that is how you spell her name, put two pictures on her blog i must put three.
This is brett
these are penguines
and finaly this is a jelly fish

7th blog
so once again i have procrastinated this weekend and have waited to do all of my home work untill sunday morning. well 12 o'clock is morning to me. fortunantly i already have all of my work done for english that is due monday, except for this blog. i need to start making my blogs longer so that is one goal i have for blogging today. today will be boring because i have to do an entire spanish project that is due.ugh well it doesnt feel like i am writing to no one anymore because i am now aware that at least one person will read my blog. yes i have one weekly reader. any way back to english class. i have actually learned a lot about my trial from researching it. most of the time i pick a topic that i already know something about, but since i dont know anything about any of the trials we could have picked from i chose something that had to do with the nazis. which granted i do know a little bit about but i didnt know anything directly about my topic. well i am probably rambling so heres a Random video.
Yes i know totaly random video but i had to do something to pass time, and i also wanted to figure out how to put a video on to a blog post. which by the way took a lot longer than i thought. well the computer is still uploading the video so i might as well type untill it is done . waiting... waiting... waiting... waiting... waiting... ok there is the video.so that is all.

6th post
well i would like to say that i have actually completed my 55 notecards. i am not one who enjoys doing research papers. i usually just half do everything and hope to get an average grade on it. however there is no time like the present to change my ways. i have completed everything on the checklist so far. except for that darn style manual. i just cant remember where i put it at the end of last year. but that is only five points of our final grade i think i can deal with it. theres that over achiever side of me again. well i pretty much did nothing this weekend except for homework. which i did complete. but i still would have liked to do somithing fun. well it cant happen every weekend. i have gotten over the fact that i wasted four days that i am not in school. so as i was writing this blog i accidentaly knocked a clay cup type thing off of my desk and it broke on the floor
However i have taken the time to fix my mistake and it turned out to look like new except for that little piece of the rim of the cup. but i think it can live without it. it still kind of looks like a cup and can still work as a cup. the picture is really bright so you cant see all of the damage done to the cup. but trust me super glue works. all of this repair took me a long time. i mean to long to spend fiximg a cup. it used to be in about twenty little chunks of glass/clay. this is probably an apropriate place to stop so for now that is all

4th blog
it is the fourth blog. and because all of my other blogs were very lenghty and detailed i decided to make this one the same way.the book we are reading in class is not my type of book. i probably have two pages of the study guide completed thats how interestin the book is to me. i just typed that sentance really fast so if it didnt make sense that is why. but yes back to the book i do not think it is interesting in the least bit. i cant pay attention to it in class because of the nothingness that is going on. WOW that made little to no sense at all. yes. hey nick cronk if you are reading this. and by the way my computer shut down because it "had to install windows updates" so yes i am not going to retype what i just did. urgg. this is my blog.

3rd Blog
well the third blog is always the best i dont know why i said that but it started off my post. i like the book we are reading. i like it because it is different than most of the books that we normaly read in class. i will say however it is very predictable. being predictable doesnt make it a bad book but it makes it less exciting to read. reading is not my favorite thing to do , thats why i like reading in class. it helps me because i would not be able to read that much. i would end up falling asleepor just not reading any more. yes. i hope i have a good seat and sit next to people i know it is just akward sittting next to someone that you dont know. it is hard to write for fifteen minutes every once and a while i have to stop and think so i really have been writing for about fifteen minutes so yeppppp.

well its the first blog
i dislike uing blogger.com. i do not like it for many reasons. im not a big computer fan. there hard to use and they are really unreliable. but all teachers expect you to use them. i dont like the fact of having a weekly assignment due every week online. the internet is a whole different story. well i dont really know were im going from here but i finaly got the website to work. i think every time a computer does not work a techer has an excuse of why im wrong.well i still have to write for another seven minutes. yep. i had several problems getting on to this website. yeah its aboutt time to go so yeah.
